Essential Student Information

Veterans Services is committed to helping military-affiliated students understand the university policies, state regulations, and benefits available to them. Use the information below to learn about parking, excused absences, active-duty military service, and other important resources.

In Texas, Disabled Veteran (DV) license plates allow qualifying veterans to park free at state-operated parking meters and provide exemptions from certain municipal parking fees.

To obtain DV license plates or a disabled parking placard, submit a completed Application for Disabled Veteran License Plates (Form VTR-615) or Application for Persons with Disabilities Parking Placard (Form VTR-214) to your local county tax office. Visit the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website for eligibility requirements and application information.

For information regarding Parking Policies at TCU visit TCU Parking and Transportation

For the official university policy, visit Excused Absences.

National Guard and Reserve students should contact Heath Bain for assistance with class absences related to drill weekends and annual training.

In accordance with Texas Education Code Section 51.9111, students called to active military service, including required travel, are entitled to excused absences from classes, exams, and other required academic activities.

Students will not be penalized for these absences and will be given a reasonable opportunity to complete missed assignments and exams. The Dean of Students Office can assist by verifying the student’s military orders and notifying faculty. Faculty are encouraged to work with students to establish a reasonable timeline for completing coursework. If assignments and exams are not completed within that timeframe, faculty may take appropriate academic action.
